Wearable Personal Computer
1997.1“At the time, I believed that the Wearable PC would absorb the phone – and many other accessories and devices like agendas, alarm clocks, and calculators. The Wearable PC represented a movement in computing towards miniaturisation, a movement that was possible thanks to the decreasing size and increasing efficiency of processing units. In this respect the Wearable PC meant a major revolution since it involved a dimension that was completely unfamiliar.
I imagined that you would be able to use this object everywhere… It could have been used to watch films like never before as the screen, which was placed in front of the eye – and was only half the size of the eyeball – allowed you to see images in a life-size scale. And it was also my belief that this technology could revolutionise medical practice, as surgeons would be able to check X-rays during operations without taking their eyes off the patient. The Wearable PC would have been useful for many other professional activities…” (From ‘Richard Sapper Edited by Jonathan Olivares’, Phaidon, 2016).
