Halley

2005.1
Desk Lamp Lucesco 2005

Sapper described the name of the lamp and his inspiration figuratively: “The illuminating head of the lamp looks a little like a comet, with a tail, and the free geometry of its movements enables it, in the orbit of its arms, to fly over the table. The cross-counterweight, a sphere, reminds me of the earth.”

The 360-degrees motion capability of the Halley is extremely fluid, allowing the user to manoeuvre the light source into any position smoothly with just a fingertip. This flawless motion was achieved by developing an innovative tiny joint that both connects and conducts electricity, inspired by audio plugs. The back of the head features a fan enclosed in a clear, orange plastic cone and is needed to cool the LED lights set to the front of the head.
